Conferencing

Conferencing can be termed as a process in which more than two persons communicate with each other and share ideas, either sitting in close proximity or from different locations. Conferencing between people was only possible in the olden times when all the members assembled in one place and sat around a table to discuss matters. The meaning of conferencing has undergone a drastic change from the 20th century onwards.

The invention of telephone enabled two people to talk to each other from two different locations. Further technological innovations enabled more than two people sitting in more than two locations to have simultaneous conversations between them. This is called telephonic conferencing. The invention of computers and after that the internet has given a totally different meaning to the word conferencing and there are so many ways now people can have conferencing sessions. There is video conferencing where people can not only talk with each other but can actually see each other as they talk.

A person sitting down in any country in Europe can speak and see his counterparts sitting anywhere in Asia or America. Further developments saw the introduction of VOIP conferencing and there is no limit now as to the possibilities that technology will offer us in the future. Perhaps one day, we might even have conferencing sessions with people sitting from different galaxies in space.
